Photography Foundations: Light, Frame, Story

A calm, beginner-friendly photography course on exposure, light, and composition, taught by Mohammed Lubbad from our Brussels studio. Self-paced, a tailored proposal

Overview

Move past Auto mode and start making photographs you actually want to share. A calm, practical introduction to exposure, light, and composition recorded in our Brussels studio.

Photography Foundations is the course we wish existed when we were starting out: no jargon dumps, no marathon theory lectures, no chasing gear you do not need. Across roughly six hours of lessons recorded in the Lubbad Production studio on Rue Delaunoy 58, Mohammed Lubbad walks you through the small set of decisions that actually change how a photograph looks. You learn to control exposure with the three settings every camera uses, to recognise where the light is coming from and how to position your subject inside it, and to make composition choices that direct the viewer's eye instead of leaving it to wander. Each module includes a short field assignment you can complete with the camera or phone you already own, plus quick review notes so you can compare your results to what was intended. By the end you will have shot, edited, and assembled a small personal portfolio of portraits, products, and location frames with a recognisable point of view. This is a foundations course; it is honest about what it covers and what it leaves for later.

FAQ

I only have a smartphone. Can I really take this course?

Yes, as long as your phone has a Pro or Manual photo mode (most recent iPhones and Android flagships do). Every exposure, light, and composition lesson applies identically. The editing module is taught in Lightroom Mobile, which is free and runs on phones.

Do I need to be in Brussels?

No. The course is self-paced and recorded; you can complete it from anywhere. Brussels appears because the lessons are filmed in our studio on Rue Delaunoy 58 and several composition exercises use local streets as examples, but you will shoot your own work in your own city.

How long does the course take?

Plan for three to four hours per week over four to six weeks: roughly one module per week, with the exercises taking longer than the lessons themselves. You have lifetime access, so you can move slower if life gets busy.

Will I be ready for paid client work after this?

Honestly, no. This is a foundations course; it builds the craft layer. Paid work needs business, contracts, pricing, client communication, and a specialised body of work in a chosen niche. After this course you will be in a strong position to start that next chapter, and our intermediate and advanced photography tracks pick up where this one stops.

Is there feedback from Mohammed on my work?

The course is self-paced and does not include one-to-one feedback on every exercise. Your final portfolio is reviewed by the Lubbad Production team and you will receive a short written response within ten working days. Personalised mentoring is available as a separate add-on.

What if I have already done a beginner photography course?

If you can shoot confidently in Manual mode, read light without thinking about it, and edit your own photographs, this course will feel slow. Skim the syllabus; if more than half the lessons describe things you already do, look at our intermediate offerings instead.
